INDOOR AIR QUALITY & ALLERGIES ARE NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT

Summer is still hanging on in Western Michigan, but it won’t be long until the changing of the seasons. You know what that means … Michigan fall allergies! Sneezing and wheezing, watery eyes and clogged up sinuses.

Sounds miserable, I know, but here’s the good news: there are things you can do to make your home as allergy-proof as possible. So, if you are interested in making your home an allergy-free zone, check out these five tips, courtesy of your friends at Mast Heating & Cooling:

  1. First and foremost (and easiest to do), change your heating and cooling system’s air filters. The importance of filtration can not be overstated. Regular air filter maintenance helps your system operate at peak efficiency, which leads to improved indoor air quality (IAQ) and lower utility bills.
  2. Proper humidification. Humidity levels are also important to maintaining good IAQ. Too much moisture in the air can lead to such allergens as fungi and mold, while not enough can lead to dry skin, sinus irritations and other health issues.
  3. Scrub-a-dub! Indoor air cleaners or scrubbers are excellent options for keeping your IAQ healthy. They literally intake air in your home, scrub it clean of allergens and contaminants such as dust, animal dander, mold spores and other germs, and circulate the clean air back into your home. Ask us about our complete line of Trane and Aprilaire air filtration systems and products.
  4. Consider a germicidal light. These products use ultraviolet (UV) rays to kill germs, pathogens and other disease-causing airborne particles. Our home comfort specialists can tell you all about our selection of UV lights and lamps.
  5. Vacuum often. Our list began with a simple IAQ solution and let’s end it the same way: regular vacuuming will greatly reduce the amount of dust and other pollutants that you track into the house. Invest in a good one with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter, specifically designed to pick up especially fine dust particles.

Allergy season is never fun, but it doesn’t have to be miserable. Follow these tips and decrease your tissue use! And don’t forget to call the professionals at Mast Heating & Cooling for all your heating and cooling – and air quality – needs.
